As a brand name, "Bantam" in the online space follows an interesting lineage of products named "Bantam" in the world of hard goods. With an etymology that springs (excuse the pun) back to a small, strong, feisty chicken that was originally bred in Indonesia, "bantam" has come to mean compact and powerful as applied to athletes like Bantam Ben Hogan, athletic leagues and weight classes, as well as products. A few notable Bantam brands stand out and include: the American Bantam Car Company which produced the original Jeep, the Northrup X-4 fighter jet, the Kodak Bantam folding camera, the BSA Bantam motorcycle, and the Swiss Army Bantam model among other brands.
The "Power of Less" is this year's theme at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco. We've been selected as a winning "Launch Pad" finalist to showcase our venture, and we think the "Bantam" brand name fits perfectly and variously for this event, the small-to-medium sized businesses our product is designed for, and the attributes of this compact yet powerful software-as-a-service application.
